Akua and Kodjo

We started sponsoring Akua and Kodjo in October 2008. Akua is 16 years old and lives in Nkunya. She is the mother of Kodjo, who is currently 7 months old. Akua and Kodjo were brought to us by the staff of the local hospital, as Akua was not producing breast milk and Kodjo was losing weight rapidly as an infant. Akua and Kodjo lived in Edemís grandfatherís house and spent the day here so we could monitor Kodjoís feeding. After 5 months Kodjo had gained all of his weight back, and then some and was starting to take solid foods. It was at that point that they returned to their village. We support Akua and Kodjo through bringing them food and babies formula, paying for their health care and health insurance and providing other necessities such as clothing. We are hoping to start an empowerment project for Woman such as Akua to help them become self sufficient and not have to rely on other, not safe, methods of making money. When that empowerment project is started Akua will be one of the women who we include.
