Full Update Letter From the Past Year

Goals are marked by the Goal Met once they are completed.
  • Goal Met To meet all basic needs of the orphans
  • To have an active after school supplemental education program (teaching English, reading and writing, personal finances, science, health, and cultural education)
  • Goal Met To provide all needed health care to each child
  • Goal Met To provide an optimal environment with proper nutrition, supervision and resources
  • To provide extracurricular opportunities such as sports and music
  • Goal Met To facilitate community support of the orphanage by communication and service projects
  • Goal Met To emphasize AIDS education and awareness to the children and community in order to reduce stigmatism
  • Goal Met To own and operate a farm (to bring in revenue for the orphanage)
  • To provide a pathway for children to transition and move on from the orphanage with minimal difficulty
  • Goal Met To provide a pathway for the orphans to become successful adults who are self-sufficient and a contribution to society
  • To provide and fund trade school and college opportunities
  • Goal Met To bring in international volunteers to work at the orphanage teaching after school lessons and working with other internal projects
  • Goal Met To develop an international volunteer program (with volunteers from around the world) complete with optional volunteer sites and programs, in addition to cultural language, and travel exposure.

The goals that have not yet been fully met are now partially met.

  • Children receive after school tutoring by volunteers.
  • They are encouraged to participate in sports with soccer matches being held between HardtHaven and other local orphanages.
  • None of our children are yet old enough to transition out of the home.

Goals 2: to be met by Dec 2010

  • To own our own property and building
  • To complete a library/community resource room with an outdoor game area
  • To expand to sponsoring 100 orphans
  • To expand our palliative care program to be able to care for 20 women at a time
  • To launch a peanut paste program in Nkunya to support our planned women's empowerment program for the region
  • To run a continual HIV/AIDS education campaign/counseling/testing program
  • To provide more international volunteer opportunities in neighboring communities
  • To implement various community development and volunteer projects
