Our Vision:
The HardtHaven vision is nothing less than the transformation of AIDS orphans from hopeless, suffering victims into productive members of their community with an exciting vision for a greater Ghana. We believe that anyone anywhere can help to change these little lives, through the inexpensive care provided by this childrenís home.
We offer more than just food, clothing, and shelter; we offer education, employment skills, and a loving home. Our ultimate aim is for the orphanage to be self-supporting as we begin implementing various alternative livelihood projects and receive renewable support from people around the globe.
Combined with the skills and participation of international volunteers, HardtHaven offers unique opportunities for both volunteers and orphans to make a lasting, life changing difference in each other's lives.

Starfish Story
Once, there was a great storm
that washed thousands of starfish up onshore.
As an old man walked the beach
he saw a young boy picking up stranded starfish
and quickly returning them to the sea.
The man approached the boy and said,
What are you doing?
The sun is rising.
What difference does it make?
They're all going to die anyway.
As the boy rose
from gently tossing back yet another starfish
he said,
I made a difference to that one!

If It Had Been
by Joy Hardt
If it had been in America
heroic efforts would have been made to save the child's life
instead of him being left on the counter to die
If it had happened in America the man who raped the 10-year-old girl
would have gone to jail instead of walking free
If it had been in America the girl would not have gone to an herbalist to have an abortion,
and instead she still would still be alive
If he had been born in America he wouldn't be 14 and in 3rd grade condemned to a life of poverty
instead he would have a bright future
If she lived in America she wouldn't be working 12 hours a day cracking nuts at the age of 7
instead she would be having tea parties and playing with her friends
If he had gotten AIDS in America he wouldnt have died so quickly
instead he would have had a fighting chance to live
If he lived in an American city people wouldn't have walked by him for hours
before it was discovered he was dead and not just sleeping on the street
If it had happened in America when the man cut his hand off with a machete it would have been reattached
instead of put in a container on the hospital floor for the ants to find
If she had gone to an American hospital
the infection would not have killed her
If they worked in America
the prostitutes would not have had their addresses tattooed on their arms
so they could be returned home if their body is found
If we had been crossing an American border
we would have not had to pay 8 bribes
If she had brought him to a hospital in America
they would not have been turned away because of their inability to pay
If it was in America the orphanage would have electricity and running water
and the children wouldn't have to eat in the dark
and walk into town to use the bathroom
If she had the surgery in America they would have been checking on her regularly throughout the night
instead of finding her dead in the morning
If she had been born in America she would have never gotten polio in the first place
and she wouldn't have to crawl
But it wasn't America, it was Africa...

And the King will tell them,
"I assure you, when you did it
to one of the least of these
my brothers and sisters,
you were doing it to me!"

I Am Only One
I Am Only One
I am only one
But still I am one.
I cannot do everything.
But still I can do something.
And because I cannot do everything,
I will not refuse to do the something that I can do.
