My name is Kafui Bavor. I am 8 years old. My parents are Emmanunel Bavor and I have been in Hardthaven Childrens home since 30th May 2007. I attend Gabi District Assembly Primary School. I am in Class 2 and my favourite subject is Religion and Moral Studies.
I want to be a bank manager when I grow up. In the home I am assigned to a plot which I enjoy sweeping as a chore. I also like going out with volunteers to keep them company and to help them find their way around. I like it when volunteers read to me and I tickle them a lot especially when they are unaware of themselves. I also like it when they tickle me back.
My favourite food is fufu and light soup and I love soccer. I get jealous sometimes when my favourite volunteers spend a lot more time with the other kids but I understand that they canít always be there for me alone. My favourite buddy in the home is Israel and I love books that have illustrations or drawings in them.
*note by Sonjelle; sometimes it is hard to see the difference one is making on a day to day basis, sometimes you get bogged down with all the details of trying to keep 16 kids behaving. One of the moments where I knew we were making a difference happened with Kafui. He took his end of term exams from class one, he got above 70% in every subject! This is in a place where 50% is passing, and his mid year exams were not so good, many 30% to 40%, seeing that significant improvement in only 5 months was astounding. All the kids were chanting 'WAAYYY BAVOOORR KAFUI!!!', when I saw the results I actually got teary eyed, and I knew that my work and that of the other volunteers sitting down and helping Kafui with his English and maths paid off.
